Now I've coloured it, I'm aware of that horse's resemblance to Scooby Doo.
I met Scooby once - well, sort of. It was in New York - there used to be this amazing WB store on 5th Avenue - I was on holiday there at Christmas in 1998. Scoobs had obviously fallen on hard times and was playing Santa on the third floor. Sad. We didn't speak - just nodded. I'm really glad he's doing ok these days.


I love women with neat dark bobbed hair ... and blood on their hands.

I wanted to include the pencils version to show all the guidelines - most of which are quite meaningless.


I forget exactly what the text is referring to - I think it was 'punishment time' from one of those 'Ubernanny' type programmes. Things in teacups will be another recurring motif.


Grant Morrison text again. Maybe it inspired the birds.

octopus and cake

Day 2 - still in June of 2007. Not sure whether I'm working through the whole book or mixing it up a little by jumping from book to book. Using dates as titles for posts is very confusing isn't it? Hence the octopus and cake title used here.
Unless stated otherwise, the colour has been added just prior to posting. The original drawings are done in various pens or brush and ink, occasionally pencil. The sketchbook, in this case, is A5 size.

I think this was just a generic guy. The message on the wall was probably sarcasm.


It's a song, isn't it. I didn't know that at the time - I think I took it from Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol - The Hangman's Daughter being one of Crazy Jane's multiple personalities. I think I meant to scribble-shade the whole hill but... you know...


Don't know what this was about. The scratch cards quote is bang on - no idea who said it, I'm afraid.
Do you know Don Martin's work? He was a cartoonist for Mad Magazine. Upstairs I have the digest of Captain Klutz - which I first read in the early 70s. Huge influence on me - although unconscious, the building in the background references his style - something I didn't notice until scanning this.


The Horror The Horror - Paranoid Android by Radiohead. Not sure why as I had stopped listening to them well before 2007.


Father McGarry was the priest who married me and my first wife. Not sure what I was getting at here ... prophetic, maybe.

Chosen at random - this may actually be the most recent sketchbook that I use here. I haven't done much sketchbook work for the last few years due to circumstances which may become clear.

It's been a long time

Hello, I'm adrian, who are you?

Here's what I'm hoping to do:
I've dug a lot of my old sketchbooks out of the loft. They date back to the early 80s - I don't think I have anything earlier than that. It's not a complete haul either - I remember throwing some away rather than lug them from one place to another.
I thought I might scan a lot of the pages and post them here. Some as straight scans, some might be coloured in Potatoshop or similar. No idea why.
I'll try to post as much info as I can - if I think it's necessary. Memories fade, however, and I couldn't tell you what I was thinking about at the time a lot of the time. Themes and motifs will probably occur - superheroes, angels, drawings from photos etc, we'll see. If the drawings are copies of other artists' work, I'll credit them.
If you see anything uncredited that you think may be copied then let me know and I'll put it right, or take it down if requested.

Anyway - can we forget what's gone before and consider this the start?
